We have two 'resident' cassowaries. A female called Cassie and a male called Charlie (OK so the names are predictable!). So if you have never seen this magnificent but endangered bird in the wild, then Licuala Lodge, Mission Beach is the place to be. Lots of other tropical birds frequent the Lodge, as does the beautiful iridescent Ulysses Butterfly and its cousin the green Cairns Birdwing.

Also available is a BBQ, microwave, TV, DVD player, lots of books and games. A couple of bikes for those who wish to do a bit of excercise. And if you really must whilst on holiday, a washing machine and tumble dryer are at your disposal. What more could you want ?!

Included in the tariff is a great tropical breakfast - cereal, fresh fruit salad (and I mean really fresh !!), toast, jams, honey, cheese, salami, yogurt, muffins, tea, coffee and real 100% orange juice. Some days  you may get a couple of pancakes - you lucky people !! If you fancy spoiling yourself whilst on holiday then go for the Hot Breakfast - which is the above plus egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms - and on occasions Sue makes her delicious toastie things - everyone likes them, they're yummy. All this for only $7.50 per head - wow !!, what a bargain.Also included in the tariff are complimentary drinks - tea, coffee, soft drinks and beer - yes BEER. How good is that !!

Our Family Room consists of two rooms which can accommodate two adults and up to three children. If you do decide to bring the kids, remember to take them with you when you leave !

Location : Mission Beach is midway between Cairns and Townsville, along a stretch of coastline known as the Cassowary Coast (also known as the Great Green Way). Turn off from the Bruce Highway at El Arish (if travelling South), and at Tully if travelling North. Mission Beach is served by several coach operators, and if you do arrive by coach, then simply give us a call (4068 8194) when you get here and we will pick you up within 5 minutes.

The Great Barrier Reef is a mere hour away from Mission Beach - several boat operators go out daily to the Great Barrier Reef - and they all pick up from the accommodation free of charge !! So if you want accommodation close to the Great Barrier Reef, the rainforest and the beach, then look no further - your search is over.

MISSION BEACH A little bit about the area ...
Set in its own cluster of tropical rainforest is the sparkling jewel of the Cassowary Coast...Mission Beach, over 14 km of magnificent golden sandy beaches. Offshore are the beautiful Family Group of islands including Dunk, Bedarra and Timana Islands, and just south is the largest island National Park in the world, Hinchinbrook Island. The Great Barrier Reef is only 38 kilometres away making Mission Beach the closest access to the Reef. It is home to the regal Southern Cassowary, a gracious but elusive flightless bird, which unfortunately is on the list of the World's Endangered Species. The area is also home to dozens of species of other birds and butterflys, the most famous being the blue Ulysses Butterfly. Its cousin, the Cairns Birdwing can also be found while enjoying the many rainforest walking tracks criss-crossing this ecotourism paradise. If it is R&R that you are after, then look no further - great walks, great views, great wildlife - all interrupted by wonderful blue sky and a welcoming sea breeze. The restuarants here are first rate - no junk food outlets here at all !! Can you beat that ?! Surrounded by National Parks and World Heritage listed reef and rainforest, Mission Beach is simply the most tranquil and magnificent place on earth.
But for all you adventure seekers, then fear not ! Scuba diving and snorkelling on the reef is just an hour away from our cute jetty. White water rafting addicts can have an adrenalin fix at nearby Tully, and for those with a head for heights Tandem Skydiving is another option. Or maybe a sedate day's fishing is more to your liking, or perhaps a round of golf. Go on - treat yourself - spend a few days here at Mission Beach doing nothing or doing something. Either way you'll have a whale of a time - I promise you. Trust me - I'm a B&B owner !!
